A Whitewater man with his seven-month-old infant in his car crashed into a semi Monday afternoon, with the man arrested for his alleged third drunken driving offense.

Charles Bruenig, 40, was taken into custody by Rock County deputies, with the drunken driving offense enhanced to a felony because of the child in the car.

The infant and mother were not injured, and the infant was turned over to the mother.

According to the Sheriff's Office report, a semi going west on Highway N at Highway 26 went into turn lane to go left, when the semi was rear-ended by Bruenig's car.

Bruenig said he was looking at a text message just before the crash. Deputies said he showed signs of impairment and he admitted to drinking alcohol at his home before driving.
