A felon was charged Friday with sexually assaulting a developmentally disabled woman in August after allegedly luring her to his apartment.
Darrell Bracey Sr., 51, of Madison, was charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault for the Aug. 19 incident in which he allegedly met the 50-year-old woman at the Metro Transit North Transfer Point near Aberg Avenue and offered to watch movies, smoke cigarettes and drink soda with her, but instead assaulted her.
Bracey was identified last month after his DNA was found to have been left on the woman's skin, according to a criminal complaint filed in Dane County Circuit Court.
The woman's case worker described her as having cerebral palsy, mild mental retardation, epilepsy and a mood disorder. She uses a cane and has a difficult time interpreting the intentions of others, the complaint states.
According to the complaint, the woman told police she thought she'd met a new friend at the transfer point who "seemed like a nice guy." But once at his apartment, she said, the man began pulling off her clothes and touching her. She left and called police.
Bracey denied bringing the woman to his apartment and said she probably knew details about where he lived and how much he paid for rent because he is a "people person."
Bracey was released from prison in May after serving a burglary sentence, and he has robbery and forgery convictions.
