Two former University of Wisconsin basketball recruits were formally charged Monday with burglary for allegedly walking into unlocked dormitory rooms and taking electronic equipment.

Jeremy C. Glover, 18, allegedly told police that it was the idea of teammate Diamond K. Taylor, 18, of Bolingbrook, Ill., to go into the rooms and take the items, and that he was just going along with it.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Dane County Circuit Court, Taylor told police the two had been drinking at a party, then went from floor to floor in Sellery Hall checking doors to find open rooms, taking cash and small electronics.

Asked why he did it, Taylor said, "I don't really know. We were drinking and stuff. I knew it was wrong and stuff. We were just being dumb," the complaint states.

Glover, a walk-on from Haymarket, Va., was dismissed from the basketball team last week. Taylor, who was a scholarship recruit, has left UW-Madison.

They were each charged with two counts of burglary. Both were released on signature bonds after appearing in court Monday. Glover also waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

According to the complaint:

A Sellery resident called police about 5:35 a.m. after seeing two men enter his room. They left when his roommate rolled over in his bed. Police then watched live security video of the building, and saw the two leave the building through the loading dock, where they were stopped and arrested.

The two were carrying items stolen from Sellery Hall and from Evans Scholars, a private dorm at 141 Langdon St. Earlier they had been escorted from Evans Scholars after a resident saw one of them squirting liquid soap on the doorknob of one of the rooms.
