Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney has been elected secretary of the association representing sheriffs from the nation's most populated counties.

Mahoney was installed as secretary of the Major County Sheriffs of America on Wednesday, along with other sheriffs installed as officers of the association.

The installation happened at the winter meeting of the Major County Sheriffs of America in Washington D.C.

Mahoney and other sheriffs also met with Pres. Trump on Tuesday, with Mahoney discussing criminal justice reform and the need to keep the mentally ill out of the system.

The Major County Sheriffs of America is comprised of elected sheriffs representing counties or parishes of 500,000 or more residents.
