The DeForest School District was among 13 school districts in the state that received funding for science, technology, engineering and mathematics instructional programs this year through the state Department of Public Instruction.

DeForest received $4,054 for a career workshop with an emphasis on those subjects for students in ninth through 12th grades, according to a DPI news release. A total of $59,400 was distributed among the districts.

The funding is part of the state's 2007-09 budget that supports innovative science, technology, engineering and mathematics programs for students who are under-represented in those fields, the release said.
