The Madison School Board will have a new president by this time next week.

James Howard, who was re-elected to a second term earlier this month and has served as board president for the past two years, said Tuesday he doesn't plan to run again when the board elects its officers next Monday.

Ed Hughes, who is up for re-election next spring, said he plans to run for the position. No other board members said they plan to run.

I hope you are correct, and if so, apologize for the earlier rather derisive comment.

It is shocking that in these difficult economic times, the school board can even be thinking about a 7% increase.

He doesn't actually support that increase - only Mertz and Loumis do. Maybe as Prez Ed can stick Mertz in a back room somewhere and give him some stapling to do.
