UW-Madison students ranked sixth in study abroad participation among all U.S. research institutions for the 2007-2008 academic year, according to a new report.
A total of 2,216 UW-Madison studied abroad in 74 countries, according to the Open Doors report, released Monday by the Institute of International Education. That is a 20 percent increase from the previous year.
Nationally, the number of Americans studying abroad increased by 8.5 percent.
Students are increasingly choosing non-traditional destinations such as China and India. At UW-Madison, European countries dominate the top five most popular destinations, but third on the list is China.
