Every year, a panel of artists and scientists at UW-Madison judges the scientific and artistic value of beautiful images and videos created by the university's science students, faculty and staff.

"Scientists are rightly proud of the images they produce, but most of them end up printed at postage stamp size in a scientific journal," said UW-Madison scientist Steve Paddock, a contest judge. "This was an especially diverse group of subjects, and a great opportunity for them to get the audience they deserve."

In its seventh year, the panel selected these 10 images and two videos as winners out of 131 submissions.
