Badgers football: Bielema had no idea Obama was on campus

Football coaches are notoriously single-minded and live in an insular world, especially during the season.

University of Wisconsin football coach Bret Bielema will frequently express a lack of awareness about other things going on, like if the Green Bay Packers are playing on a Thursday night, for example.

But Bielema took it to a new level on Thursday, during his media session after practice.

Bielema was asked about the president being on campus and had a bewildered look on his face.

"President of our ...?" he said.

"I have no idea what's going on."

As reporters snickered, Bielema was told President Barack Obama was on campus.

Bielema looked at Brian Lucas, the athletic communications director, for help, but Lucas just shrugged.

After being told Obama was on campus and met briefly with the UW men's basketball team, Bielema said, "The shell I live in, I have no idea."

Bielema usually takes a walk with UW athletic director Barry Alvarez on Thursday, so the information about Obama being here could have come up then. But Alvarez wasn't around, because he was at a Board of Regents meeting.

"I walked by myself," Bielema said. "It was very peaceful. Controlled the whole conversation."

At least Bielema is able to laugh at himself, also bringing it up at the start of his radio show on Thursday night.

Sorry, on this topic I don't care what people think. One is a good coach the other is a terrible president, wouldn't care if he was on the other side of the road.

It's ok Brett the way your team is playing, I'm certain the President didn't know you were around campus either.

Bret Bielema is hardly The One. That used to be Brett Favre, but I believe the position is now vacant.

Not a big Bret Bielema fan as head coach of the football team but I sure applaud him for not knowing that the Teleprompter-In-Chief was in town! Obama in town is news? Seriously? He's a puppet of the globalist/corporatist elite. Nuff said.

Ron Paul or nobody at all.

The reporters who cover sports obviously follow national news outside of sports. This would explain the snickers.

Why are reporters asking the football coach about a political event, in the first place?

Sorry, I forgot. Everyone must worship at the altar of The One.

I love it. He doesn't care and all of you bash him for not caring about anything but his job at hand. Y'all spend way too much time worrying about politics and bashing others. I knew the President was in town mostly because it is all the media cared about. Did I go? No. Did I want to? No. Will I vote for him? Likely, but only as the lesser of two evils since the third party never stands a chance.
