Democratic incumbent state Sen. Bob Wirch of Pleasant Prairie has survived a recall election.
Unofficial results in Tuesday's election show that Wirch captured 56 percent of the vote compared with 44 percent for his Republican challenger Jonathan Steitz.
The win helps Democrats hold on to the two seats they gained last week by defeating a pair of Republicans in six recalls. Democrats had hoped to win at least three seats last week to take majority control of the Senate.
Even with the Wirch win, Republicans still hold a 17-16 majority.
A second recall election Tuesday targeting Democratic incumbent Sen. Jim Holperin was too close to call based on early returns. Holperin had 54 percent of the vote with 45 percent of precincts reporting.
