The executive director of the Wisconsin Republican Party, Joe Fadness, is leaving to take a position with Gov. Scott Walker's presidential campaign.

Fadness will be succeeded at the executive director post by Mike Duffey, according to a statement released by the state GOP Monday morning.

Fadness began his political career as an intern for Walker in 2003 during his time as Milwaukee County Executive.

Duffey has held several high-level campaign positions in Wisconsin, including state director for John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign, according to the statement.

The chairman of the state Republican Party, Brad Courtney, said in the statement that the party achieved historic success under Fadness' leadership.

"While we’re sad to bid Joe farewell, we wish him well as he returns to Governor Walker’s team," Courtney said. "I’m confident that Mike Duffey will continue building the Party as a driving force to elect Republican candidates across the state."
