Dr. Christopher Sprowl has been named president of SSM Health Dean Medical Group, SSM Health announced Tuesday.

Sprowl, who will begin his new job March 15, has been president and chief operating officer at Maine Medical Partners, based in Portland, Maine, since 2012. He was previously vice president of PeaceHealth Medical Group in Washington state.

He also helped found and led the Colorado-based Integrated Physician Network, a nonprofit, self-sustaining, clinically integrated network. He is board certified in family medicine and holds a master’s degree in medical management. He earned his medical degree at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

“Dr. Sprowl brings a wealth of clinical experience and is a proven physician leader,” Dr. Shane Peng, president of physician and ambulatory operations for SSM Health, said in a statement. “He will be instrumental in helping us continue to provide high-quality, compassionate and personal care to the communities we serve in Wisconsin.”

Sprowl will work with Damond Boatwright, president of hospital operations, and Frank Lucia, president and CEO of Dean Health Plan, to lead SSM Health in Wisconsin.
