Alumni Park opening
Join in the celebration of Alumni Park’s opening at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St. There will be a Library Mall mini-fest featuring music, food samples and Bucky Badger. The opening celebration is at 6 p.m., with exhibits, artisan demonstrations, UW Marching Band and park-featured alumni. Free. For information, call 888-947-2586.
Learn to stargaze
Madison Parks and UW Space Place will host a free Learn to Stargaze workshop from 7 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Rennebohm Park, 115 N. Eau Claire Ave. The evening will include a short program on what is visible in the current sky, followed by a view of the constellations with telescopes provided. Outdoor painting demos
People of all ages are invited to experience plein air, or open air, painting demonstrations at Stewart Lake County Park from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Eight to 10 artists from the Dane County Plein Air Society will be painting in the park, with an oil painting demonstration at 9:30 a.m. and a pastel painting demonstration at 10:30 a.m. Art supplies will be provided for attendees to experiment with outdoor painting. Day of soccer
MGE Día de Fútbol, a day for people of all ages to celebrate the sport of soccer, will take place Sunday at Breese Stevens Field, 917 E. Mifflin St. There will be a youth soccer clinic from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by two youth tournaments featuring Dane County children from pre-selected teams. The Madison Senior Center will host the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art’s bi-annual Gallery Night from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, showcasing the city’s vibrant arts community. View the photo exhibit from this year’s “A Photo Affair,” while enjoying light refreshments and music. Event is free.
