cream social

Relax and enjoy a free old-fashioned ice cream social from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at The Gardens, a retirement community, at 602 N. Segoe Road. Ice cream will be scooped beginning at 2 p.m., listen to Down from the Hills, a bluegrass band, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Events are sponsored by Independent Living and Kiwanis Club of Downtown Madison. Art reception

Meet Nancy Hutson and George Hutson, featured artists of the month, at the Madison Senior Center. The Art of Play: A Father-Daughter Show will be on display at the center through Sept. 15. A free artist reception will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at 330 W. Mifflin St. Nancy Hutson is presenting crochet paintings and sculptures alongside her father’s acrylic paintings of dinosaurs. Rolling Meadows Neighborhood Association is hosting an ice cream social for neighborhood families from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Kingston-Onyx Park, 334 Garnet Lane. Free golf instruction

at Monona Golf Course

Get help with your golf game as Madison Parks hosts Free Instruction Saturdays. Madison Parks professional staff and Sue Shapcott of Change Golf Instruction will cover putting, short game, iron play, hybrids, woods and drivers, as well as how swing mechanics affect ball flight. The next class will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at Monona Golf Course, 111 E. Dean Ave. All ages and skill levels are welcome.
