One person is dead after a three-vehicle crash Friday in the town of Montrose, according to the Dane County Sheriff's Office.

Around 3:45 p.m., a Ford Escort driven by a 33-year-old woman from Monroe crossed the center line while driving on Highway 69 near Argue Road and side-swiped a semi driving the opposite direction, Lt. Krista Ewers-Hayes said.

The Buick Verano that was driving behind the semi could not avoid colliding with the Ford, Ewers-Hayes said, and the 79-year-old man driving the Buick was pinned and had to be extricated from his vehicle.

The driver of the Buick died at the scene, Ewers-Hayes said.

The passenger of the Buick was taken to an area hospital "as a precaution," Ewers-Hayes said. The driver of the Ford was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Highway 69 was closed to traffic after the crash and reopened around 9:45 p.m., Ewers-Hayes said.
