In homage to the state Capitol’s 100th anniversary, Capitol Tours will offer twilight tours of the building’s exterior and the surrounding grounds.
This is the first time Capitol Tours will offer an evening exterior tour of the building. They have been offering tours of the Capitol since 1914.
The 45-minute free tour will take visitors through the building’s history, while also making stops at statues, monuments, trees and gardens, said officials with the state Department of Administration. Visitors will have a chance to learn more about the symbolic meaning of the sculptures and ornamentation around the Capitol’s dome, for example.
Because space for tours is limited, pre-registration is required. Department spokesman Steve Michels said that if there is high interest in the tours, the agency may offer more dates down the road.
