The letter titled "Voter ID: Costly fix to dubious problem" published Tuesday contained factual errors about the position of the Government Accountability Board. The writer is wrong when she states: "Even the Government Accountability Board testified against the bill" and, "As the GAB testified, this bill was totally unnecessary."
The GAB did not take a position for or against the voter photo ID bill. Our position has always been that voter photo ID is a policy issue to be decided by the Legislature and the governor.
In my Senate testimony on April 27, I offered several suggested changes to the law to improve election administration, some of which were incorporated into the final bill.
