The best tribute to the late Sen. Ted Kennedy is to make sure everyone has the same ongoing and end-of-life heath care choices and insurance coverage he did.
The brain surgery he, his family and doctor decided was a risky but reasonable course for a 76-year-old, obese man in poor overall health was not an easy one, especially considering his lifelong alcohol dependency. It extended Kennedy's life and allowed him to say goodbye to his loved ones, a luxury few are granted.
Congress rejected the public option plan for their own, personal health care that they created, and for good reason - the plan does not work. Millions of Americans are satisfied with their health care and private insurance.
The real problem is Americans who are underinsured or uninsured either by choice or happenstance. Let's deal with that problem rather than destroying the best health care system in the world.
