Regarding a recent letter on U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold's public listening sessions, I live in northern Wisconsin and have attended many of his sessions. I am always impressed by his courtesy, memory and command of the issues.
At times the questions are offbeat - one county resident shows up every time and demands that our beautiful north woods are a perfect location for a nuclear waste dump! Feingold is respectful and patient, although he's heard this story before.
I checked with Feingold's office about the session the letter writer referred to. About 100 people were there, and nearly half of them got to speak. We don't turn out such big crowds, but I've never been to a Feingold session where anyone left unhappy because they were unable to speak or get a satisfactory response.
The fact that he visits every county, every year - and has for years - is astonishing. Thank you, Sen. Feingold!
