Regarding a Nov. 12 Local Digest article titled "DNR wants hunters to shoot pigs," the DNR makes a clear case for the shooting of feral pigs to help eliminate the damage they do to the environment and the threat of the diseases they carry.
But I do not understand why the DNR requires a small game license to shoot them. Many hunters, such as myself, do not hunt small game. So we only carry a big game license.
If eliminating feral pigs from Wisconsin's landscape is truly a priority, then what is wrong with making an allowance for deer hunters to also shoot them?
The DNR is far too mercenary and prefers license sales over doing what is best for Wisconsin's ecology.
