I am not sure whether I should be surprised or not that a glaring example of what is wrong with our political system was largely ignored by the mainstream media.

I am referring to the fact that once again the Republicans in the Senate blocked an important, bipartisan and necessary piece of legislation simply to deny the Obama administration another accomplishment. That would be the Veterans' Jobs Bill that was denied by Senate Republicans on Wednesday.

This is a bill that was actually supported by some of the Republican senators, and would have helped address the indignity that many of our patriotic service members are facing: the difficulty in finding employment.

People like to claim that our country is somehow worse off than we were before Barack Obama became our president. The fact is that we went from losing jobs to now having 30 consecutive months of private sector job growth. We are chipping away at the embarrassingly large number of uninsured Americans, and we have taken out Osama bin Laden and many of the top members of al-Qaida.

Just imagine how well we would be doing if the Republicans had not put defeat of Obama on top of their radical right-wing agenda.
