Gov. Scott Walker has indicated he will sign the bill that dismantles the Government Accountability Board, the agency that oversees our campaign finance, elections, ethics and lobbying laws.
Most of the reasons that were given by the authors of this bill have been effectively refuted. Other allegations are being blown way out of proportion. As an example, the authors alleged that the GAB did not perform audits of the voting machines. This has been disproved with detailed documentation. Another claim by Walker about the recall petitions has been ruled false by Politifact.
While Walker may claim that the GAB has to be extinguished because it was not doing its job, the real reason may be that the GAB was doing its job too well.
