I have a modest proposal for our state legislators: When a huge proposal such as the Foxconn deal comes before you, treat the proposal as if it came from the opposition party.
Use public hearings to gather information, not to build support for a position you already hold. Invite the skeptics to your hearings, not just the cheerleaders. Due diligence requires that all sides of the issue are considered.
The best way for legislators to exercise their due diligence is to pretend that the other party brought up the proposal. Wisconsin will get much better legislation that way.
