Regarding the proposal to remove "America's Dairyland" from Wisconsin license plates because it is out of date, perhaps the Packers should change their name because fewer meat packers are in Green Bay. The Brewers should change their name because fewer brewers are in Milwaukee, and the Wisconsin Badgers should become the Wisconsin Students because our state doesn't have as many badgers, either miners or critters.
Tradition and history are important. They help bind the community together.
The Legislature certainly has more important business to attend to, such as the educational gap between whites and blacks, poverty in the inner city, fair legislative districts, protecting the environment and fixing the roads.
Let's call all our teams the Mississippians. We do, after all, still have the river, and our state is more and more like that backward Southern state.
