Support for the Differed Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) residents is not a political choice. It is a moral choice.
Imprisoning and then deporting young immigrants to a country they have never known is a crime against humanity and a violation of simple human rights. Imprisoning and then deporting immigrants to a county where they may face injury, persecution or death is a crime against humanity and a violation of simple human rights.
Many of these people facing deportation have lived, worked owned businesses and paid taxes for many years or most of their lives as our neighbors and friends. America promotes democracy and freedom throughout the world. Now is the time to do the same at home.
I have been privileged to meet and work with immigrants through my life. I never thought to consider them anything but citizens of my world and my country. They are decent hardworking people who I am proud to have as my neighbors in America.
We cannot stand silent and let someone else decide their fate while we claim to love America’s values and founding principles.
We must use our voices to speak for what is moral.
