I would like to thank the Madison School Board for its unanimous vote this week to support students with special needs, by increasing the number of special education assistants.
As a special education teacher in the school district, I run a program for students with intellectual disabilities and autism. A number of students in my classroom need one-on-one support to keep them included, safe and educated. Having an adequate number of special education assistants makes all the difference in the world for these kids and their development.
So thank you again to the School Board for recognizing the assistant shortfall this year, and for voting to support our students with special needs. Your vote will have an immediate impact on the quality of education these kids receive, and will make our schools and community stronger as a result.
