I never expected to support any idea from a font of privileged delusion such as Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, but I was wrong.
Sen. Cruz is bandying about the idea of taxpayer-provided subsidies for health care coverage for those with preexisting conditions. He sees this as a lesser of evils compared to regulation requiring a personal mandate that everyone purchase health insurance. I see it as a logical first step to our only real solution to health care: single payer.
Just as only a then-President Richard Nixon could open relations with China, perhaps only a Sen. Cruz can open GOP relations with health care sanity. And just think, when he retires into obscurity, Sen. Cruz can fondly look back on how he instigated the framework for single-payer Cruzcare.
