The annual Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame banquet is scheduled for March 24 at the Madison Marriott West in Middleton.

Former University of Wisconsin-Whitewater head football coach Lance Leipold is scheduled to be enshrined as a member of the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame Class of 2018 on Saturday, March 24, according to a release from UW-Whitewater.

Leipold, who played quarterback for the Warhawks from 1983-86 and served as head coach of the program from 2007-14, will be the lone college coach in this year's induction class, the 39th in the WFCA Hall of Fame's history. He recently finished his third season as head football coach at Buffalo, an NCAA Division I institution.

After a Hall of Fame career as a quarterback for UW-Whitewater, Leipold returned to the program as an assistant coach during three seasons (1987-88, 1990).

After several stops as an assistant, including at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Nebraska-Omaha, Leipold returned to UW-Whitewater in 2007. He built on the recent success of head coach Bob Berezowitz, who retired in 2006 after leading the Warhawks to consecutive national runner-up finishes.

Over the next eight seasons, Leipold amassed a record of 109-6 and led UW-Whitewater to seven Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles, six national championships and one other trip to the Stagg Bowl. He became the fastest head coach in college football history to reach the 100-career victory plateau, doing so in only 106 games, and was a four-time WIAC George Chryst Coach of the Year and six-time national coach of the year.

Tickets for the WFCA Hall of Fame reception and dinner cost $45 each and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. To purchase tickets, make checks payable to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association and mail to Joyce Follis at 252 S. Ardmore Dr., Whitewater, WI 53190.
