ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Dexter Dancs' second goal of the game in the final seconds of the second period helped deliver the finishing blow to the University of Wisconsin men's hockey season, a 7-4 Wolverines victory Saturday for a two-game sweep of a Big Ten Conference first-round series.

Three stars

No. 3: Michigan defenseman Quinn Hughes had an assist and showed how much he can contribute to getting the Wolverines' offense going.

No. 2: Badgers center Trent Frederic scored twice, giving him 17 goals for the season.

No. 1: Dexter Dancs scored two goals to help the Wolverines advance to the Big Ten semifinals.

The University of Wisconsin doesn't have history on its side in trying to extend a Big Ten Conference first-round playoff series to a third game against No. 12 Michigan on Saturday (6:30 p.m., no TV, BTN Plus pay stream, 1310 AM).

The Badgers are 1-7 in best-of-three series when losing the first game, as they did Friday in a 6-5 decision against the Wolverines.

Only twice in eight tries have they even forced a third game, winning the last two games of a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series against Northern Michigan in 1995 and losing Game 3 to Alaska Anchorage in 2004.

To try to get to Game 3, the Badgers are turning to Jack Berry in goal after Kyle Hayton allowed six goals on 29 shots on Friday.
