Getting goals from freshman Brette Pettet, junior Sophia Shaver and senior Maddie Rolfes, the top-ranked University of Wisconsin women’s hockey team matched the program’s best start after downing Minnesota Duluth 3-1 to cap a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series sweep Saturday at LaBahn Arena.

In beating the Bulldogs (9-10, 5-7 WCHA), UW extended its home unbeaten streak to 22 games. The Badgers (19-1, 10-0) have outscored opponents 108-14 during the run.

Sophomore goalie Kristen Campbell stopped 16 of 17 shots and improved to 19-1.

UW’s 2008-09 squad also produced a .950 season-opening winning percentage (18-0-2).

Freshman Evan Wick was pinned by No. 5 David McFadden of Virginia Tech to settle for second place at 165 pounds at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas.
