Verona native Claudia Kepler, who co-captained the University of Wisconsin women's hockey team last season, will play professionally in Sweden.
Kepler has signed a one-year contract to play for HV71, the team announced Friday.
Looks like I’m going to have to learn some swedish! But I do know somewhere in that article it says I have signed to play for @HV71 ! Excited to continue my hockey career overseas !! ???? https://t.co/rJLrzQavQE— Claudia Kepler (@ClaudeKep24) April 13, 2018
Kepler led the Badgers with 22 goals in her only season with the team following a transfer from Ohio State.
Because of the move, she had to sit out the 2016-17 season under Western Collegiate Hockey Association rules.
She was selected for the WCHA's second team after a 25-point senior season.
Former Badgers defensemen Meaghan Mikkelson and Molly Engstrom played professionally in Sweden in the 2017-18 season.
