It wasn’t as easy as the first two games, but when it was all said and done, the No. 2 UW-Whitewater football team rounded out non-conference play undefeated and extended its home winning streak to 27 games.

The Warhawks used a pair of first-quarter touchdowns from Drew Patterson to take control early and held on to defeat Morningside (Iowa) 35-21 on Saturday at Perkins Stadium.

After outscoring their opponents 110-16 over the first two games, the Warhawks faced its first true test of the season in the Mustangs (2-1), ranked second in the NAIA.

Whitewater opened up a 28-13 lead early in the third quarter, but a 93-yard touchdown pass from Trent Solsma to Tanner VerSteeg brought Morningside to within seven points.

The Warhawks responded with a 34-yard touchdown pass from Chris Nelson to Marcus Hudson with just under 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Nelson threw for 234 yards and four touchdowns on nine completions and Patterson had 20 carries for 85 yards and added a touchdown rushing and a touchdown receiving.

UW-Platteville 56, Lakeland 0

Tom Kelly threw for 213 yards and two touchdowns and the No. 10 Pioneers (3-0) piled up 316 yards rushing to cruise past the host Muskies (2-1) in Plymouth.

Platteville opened up the scoring with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Kelly to Quinn Buschbacher five minutes into the first quarter.

After being held in check for the rest of the first quarter, the Pioneers erupted for 49 points in the second and third quarters, highlighted by three touchdown runs by Kyle Whitman.

Tim Jansen had three receptions for 164 yards and three touchdowns and Whitman finished with 23 carries for 104 yards to lead Platteville.

UW-Oshkosh 77, Morthland (Ill.) 0

The No. 5 Titans (3-0) jumped out to a 63-0 halftime lead and cruised past the visiting Patriots (1-2).

Oshkosh rolled up 530 yards of total offense and limited Morthland to minus-63 yards rushing.

UW-River Falls 42, Southwestern (Texas) 22

The Falcons (1-2) scored 21 points in the first quarter and rolled to a win over the visiting Pirates (1-3) on Homecoming weekend.

Rance Ashley used seven carries to pile up 115 yards and two touchdowns for River Falls.

UW-La Crosse 41, Carroll 7

The visiting Eagles (3-0) scored the first 35 points en route to the win over the Pioneers (0-3).

Tarek Yaeggi threw for 318 yards and Joel Oxton had eight catches for 145 yards for La Crosse.

UW-Stevens Point 44, Adrian (Mich.) 19

Christian Almonte scored the first two touchdowns and the Pointers (3-0) forced three turnovers to rout the host Bulldogs (1-2).
