The world’s buffest men and women will congregate in Madison in August for the annual Reebok CrossFit Games, making a return visit after the 2017 Games were dubbed the most successful in its 10-year history.

The games will be held Aug. 1-5 at the Alliant Energy Center grounds and other sites in Madison.

“We are extremely excited to welcome back the Reebok CrossFit Games,” said Jamie Patrick, vice president of the Madison Area Sports Commission.

“Madison is known as one of the fittest cities in the country, and we can’t wait to host the fittest athletes on earth for what we believe will be the best CrossFit Games yet,” Patrick said.

Over 72,000 people watched the best CrossFit athletes compete in Madison this year in a variety of fitness challenges, including power lifting, running, biking and swimming.

The 2017 Games, also at the Alliant center, brought in an estimated $12 million to Madison-area businesses.

Over 400,000 athletes will begin competition for the games in February during what’s known as The Open, five weeks of competition at thousands of CrossFit locations, leading into online competition in April and regional qualifying at nine worldwide locations in May and June.

The athletes will be pared to 560 competing in the Madison games.
