The Big Eight Conference Grade Level Challenge will keep things busy this afternoon at Lake Farm Park, featuring the state's two best cross country teams — and others trying to hunt the leaders down.

All 10 teams in the Big Eight will participate in the races, which will be scored in a unique way. Runners are placed in scoring order based on grade level, competing only against runners from their own grade.

Lake Farm Park is located at 4330 Libby Road on the southeast edge of Madison. Madison Memorial is serving as meet host this year.

Freshmen and sophomores will run at 4 p.m. (girls) and 4:40 p.m. (boys). Juniors and seniors will run at 5:20 p.m. (girls) and 6 p.m. (boys).

Entering the meet, seven Big Eight teams are ranked in Division 1 by the Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association:

Boys — Madison West, No. 1; Middleton, No. 2; Madison La Follette, No. 8.

Girls — Sun Prairie, No. 1; Janesville Craig, No. 6; Middleton, No. 9; Madison West, No. 13.
