Showdown time is almost here between the top two teams in the Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association’s Division 1 boys rankings.

Middleton held on to the No. 1 spot in this week’s state rankings, followed by No. 2 Madison West — and with two other Big Eight Conference teams, No. 6 Madison La Follette (up one spot) and No. 12 Sun Prairie, also making the rankings.

All four teams will compete for top honors in Saturday morning’s Big Eight Conference meet at Lake Farm County Park, closing the regular season.

Also running at the Big Eight meet will be the Sun Prairie girls team, No. 1 in the rankings every week this season. The Cardinals' top conference challenger will be fourth-ranked Janesville Craig and 20th-ranked Middleton.

Also in the Division 1 rankings, the Monona Grove boys held the No. 13 spot and the Stoughton Girls were ranked 15th.

In Division 2, the Dodgeville/Mineral Point boys held on to the No. 2 ranking heading into today’s Southwest Wisconsin Conference meet. Monroe moved up two places to No. 4, McFarland held firm at No. 8 heading into Thursday’s Rock Valley Conference meet, and Madison Edgewood climbed one spot to No. 11. Monroe and Edgewood will battle in the Badger South meet on Saturday in Watertown. Valders was ranked No. 1.

The Wisconsin Dells girls kept their No. 2 ranking, followed by No. 4 Lake Mills, No. 7 East Troy and No. 9 Jefferson. Freedom was ranked first.

In Division 3, the Darlington boys claimed the No. 1 ranking, switching spots with No. 2 Durand.
