There has been a change at the top in the Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association’s weekly state rankings for Division 1 boys teams.

Middleton, ranked No. 2 all season behind defending WIAA state champion Madison West, moved into the No. 1 spot after finishing sixth (to West’s eighth) in the Gold Division of the Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota on Saturday.

Caleb Easton led Middleton with a seventh-place finish (16 minutes, 40 seconds for 5,000 meters) among 436 entrants from 46 teams. Daniel Jacobs was 26th for West (17:01).

Madison La Follette jumped up three places to No. 6 this week, and Sun Prairie bolted up from No. 13 last week to No. 8 this week, giving the Big Eight Conference four of the top eight teams. Monona Grove was ranked 15th.

In the Division 1 girls poll, Sun Prairie held on to the No. 1 ranking after finishing fourth in the Roy Griak race. Janesville Craig slipped one spot to No. 4. No. 17 Stoughton, No. 19 Madison West and No. 20 Waunakee earned honorable mention.

In the Division 2 boys rankings, Dodgeville/Mineral Point jumped up one spot to No. 2. Also, Monroe fell one spot to No. 7, McFarland held firm at No. 10, and No. 12 East Troy and No. 13 Madison Edgewood each moved up one spot. Valders held the no. 1 ranking.

In the Division 2 girls rankings, Wisconsin Dells held on to its No. 2 ranking, No. 4 East Troy and No. 6 Lake Mills retained their spots, and Jefferson slipped three places to No. 10. Prairie du Chien earned the No. 14 ranking. Freedom was ranked No. 1.

In the Division 3 boys rankings, Darlington dropped out of the No. 1 spot, switching places with new leader Rosholt.

In Division 3 girls, Dodgeland held on to the No. 1 ranking, Lancaster held on to its No. 3 spot and Marshall jumped up two places to No. 4. Palmyra-Eagle slipped one place to No. 6, and No. 12 Poynette, No. 14 Albany and No. 15 Boscobel earned honorable mention.
