Middleton junior Caleb Easton heads toward the finish line of the WIAA Division 1 state boys cross country meet on Saturday at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids. Easton finished eighth individually.

The Middleton boys cross country team earned a berth in the Nike Cross Country Nationals with a second-place finish in the NXR Heartland Regional on Sunday in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Caleb Easton finished 20th overall in 15 minutes, 26.4 seconds (5,000 meters) and teammate Sam Jaeger was 21st (15:27.1).

The national meet will be held Saturday, Dec. 2, at Glendoveer Golf Course in Portland, Oregon.

Drew Bosley of Mequon Homestead, the WIAA Division 1 individual state champion, won the regional in 14 minutes, 53.6 seconds. Onalaska Luther’s David Vannucchi was 11th in 15:16.9.

The Sun Prairie girls finished fifth among 27 teams, led by Katie Rose Blachowicz’s 24th-place finish (18:05.5).

Janesville Craig’s Peyton Sippy, the Division 1 state champion, placed 19th in 17:57.8. Division 2 state champ Dana Feyen of Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau was 11th in 17:42.2.
