Sun Prairie senior Katie Rose Blachowicz announced via Twitter that she has orally committed to run at Notre Dame.

Blachowicz will run cross country and track and field at Notre Dame, Sun Prairie girls cross country coach Matt Roe said.

Blachowicz was named to the Wisconsin State Journal/ All-Area team for girls cross country. She led the Cardinals to their second consecutive WIAA Division 1 state title with a third-place finish in the D-1 meet (18 minutes, 21 seconds).

She placed second at the Big Eight Conference meet (18:29) and was first at sectionals with a personal-best 18:00.2.

Blachowicz made great improvement in her senior year.

“To go from finishing in the 20s (at last year’s state meet) to being a legitimate contender for the top spot at the state meet is pretty great,” Roe said just before the state meet. “It’s an amazing jump. I’m not surprised Katie Rose is the person to do that. But it is always amazing when someone goes that far that quick in a year. But, again, knowing who she is and how hard she works and how mentally tough she is, it’s not a surprise. She really wants to be this great.”

She tweeted: “I’m thrilled to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of Notre Dame. Go Irish!”
