Senior Mike Timm scored on a 5-yard run with four minutes remaining Friday to propel the Wales Kettle Moraine football team to a 28-19 victory over host Verona in a WIAA Division 1 first-round playoff game Friday night.

Timm added another score in the final minute after the Lasers (7-3) stopped a Verona drive. It was his third score of the second half.

Verona (6-4) took an early lead on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Young to Carson Bull and Young connected on a 45-yard field goal to give the Wildcats a 10-point lead in the first quarter.

Young finished with 157 passing yards and made four field goals, including a go-ahead 35-yarder late in the third, to lead Verona.

Haakon Anderson added 104 yards on seven carries for the Wildcats.

Sun Prairie 35, Madison Memorial 0

Draven Peeples rushed for 119 yards and two scores to lead the top-seeded Cardinals (10-0) over the visiting Spartans (4-6).

The Sun Prairie defense held Madison Memorial to minus-18 yards rushing and 33 total yards.

Sun Prairie beat Madison Memorial 50-0 in the teams’ Big Eight Conference regular-season meeting.

Jack Zander threw for a score and rushed for another.

Sun Prairie will host Wales Kettle Moraine in a second-round game next week.

Madison West 21, Sussex Hamilton 9

The host Regents (8-2) scored two second-half touchdowns to erase a halftime deficit and defeat the Chargers (5-5).

Senior Keishawn Shanklin threw for 81 yards, rushed for 119 and scored two touchdowns, one rushing and one passing.

Sussex Hamilton took a 9-7 lead into halftime after a safety and a TD run by Patton Germann.

West will play at Middleton in a second-round game next week. In the teams’ first Big Eight meeting, Middleton took a 36-0 victory.

Middleton 41, Madison La Follette 8

James Pabst rushed for 202 yards and two scores to lead the host Cardinals (9-1) over the Lancers (4-6).

Middleton totaled a combined 337 rushing yards on 43 carries.

Dion Huff rushed for 111 yards and two scores for the Cardinals.

Anthony West rushed for Madison La Follette’s lone score.

Franklin 45, Janesville Craig 7

The host Sabers (9-1) scored 28 straight points in the second quarter to take control and top the Cougars (4-6).

Sam Kelly had six receptions for 109 yards to lead Janesville Craig.
