Led by three-event winner Karina Sabol, the host Middleton gymnastics team knocked off the third-ranked team on the coaches’ Division 1 honor roll to win the eight-team Cardinal Invitational on Saturday.

Middleton scored 138.925 points, followed by the Waukesha North co-op with 137.925.

Madison West took fifth (126.925) and Verona/Madison Edgewood was seventh (120.5).

Sabol, a junior, won the balance beam (9.725), floor exercise (9.7) and vaulting (9.4). Ellie Tschumper of the West Salem co-op won the all-around (35.750 points) and was first on uneven bars (9.1). Middleton senior Chloe Young took third in all-around (34.7), followed by teammate Jordan Baggot in seventh (33.25) and West’s Alex DeAngeles in eighth (33.175).

West’s Lucia Durst was fifth on beam (9.125), Middleton’s Young took fourth on bars (8.35) and Cardinals Baggot (8.65) and Ashley Bindl took third and fifth, respectively, in vaulting.
