The ninth annual Culver’s Cup high school hockey tournament for boys and girls is scheduled to begin today at Madison Ice Arena and Hartmeyer Ice Arena.

Competition is scheduled through Friday.

Twenty-four high school teams representing more than 42 schools and communities from the state will compete in the 2017 Culver’s Cup, which is billed as the largest high school hockey tournament in the state (24 teams, three days, 36 games).

There are three divisions – boys varsity, girls varsity and boys JV.

The participating teams:

Boys Varsity: Madison Memorial, Madison West, Monona Grove, Baraboo/Portage, Minocqua Lakeland, Baldwin-Woodville, Ashland High School, Oshkosh Ice Hawks.

Girls Varsity: Middleton co-op Madison Metro Lynx, University School of Milwaukee co-op, Onalaska co-op, Minocqua Lakeland, Wisconsin Valley Union, St. Croix Valley Fusion, Superior co-op, Brookfield Glacier.

Boys JV: The Lakers, Janesville, Waunakee, Monona Grove, Baldwin-Woodville, Madison Memorial, Ashland, Oshkosh Ice Hawks.

Girls competition begins at 12:15 p.m. today (Wednesday, Dec. 27): Madison Metro Lynx vs. Brookfield Glacier, 12:15 p.m., Madison Ice Arena; University School of Milwaukee vs. Lakeland, 12:30 p.m., Hartmeyer Ice Arena; Superior vs. Onalaska, 3 p.m., Hartmeyer Ice Arena; Wisconsin Valley Union vs. St. Croix Fusion, 5:15 p.m., Hartmeyer Ice Arena.

Action continues Thursday and Friday in the girls division, with the championship final at 2:45 p.m. Friday at Madison Ice Arena.

Boys varsity competition begins at 2:45 p.m. today (Wednesday, Dec. 27). Wednesday’s schedule in bracket order: Monona Grove vs. Baraboo/Portage, 7:30 p.m., Hartmeyer Ice Arena; Madison West vs. Ashland, 7:45 p.m., Madison Ice Arena; Lakeland vs. Oshkosh Ice Hawks, 2:45 p.m., Madison Ice Arena; Madison Memorial vs. Baldwin-Woodville, 5:15 p.m., Madison Ice Arena.

Action continues Thursday and Friday in the boys varsity division, with the championship game at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Madison Ice Arena.
