Some area athletes recently announced via Twitter that they made oral commitments for college athletics: Verona junior Molly McChesney, softball at the University of Akron; Milton senior Carley Albrecht, women’s soccer at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater; and Milton senior Kailey Harbort, women’s basketball at UW-Platteville.

McChesney, who can play infield and outfield, tweeted: “I am very excited to announce that I have committed to play softball at the University of Akron. It has always been a dream of mine to compete at the Division I level. I would like to thank Coach Jones and Coach Pratt for giving me the opportunity to fulfill my dream. I thank Mike Umberger and Roger Schliewe of the Wisconsin Bandits for always pushing me to strive higher and play to my fullest potential. I thank my Verona High School coaches Todd Anderson, Michelle Schreier and Dale Jacobson for believing in me and teaching me how to lead with passion. I thank Brian Bott at Sports Advantedge for showing me what the EDGE really means. Most importantly, I would like to thank my parents for their unconditional love and sacrifices so that I can continue to play the game I love. None of this would be possible without their support. Go Zips!”

Meanwhile, Greg Jefferies tweeted that he was “extremely honored” to be selected as the new boys basketball coach at Jefferson.
