Mount Horeb boys soccer coach Mark Newman was named a regional high school coach of the year by United Soccer Coaches.

Newman was named the 2017 High School Boys Small School Great Lakes Region coach of the year, according to an announcement this week from the United Soccer Coaches.

Newman guided Mount Horeb to the WIAA Division 3 state title this fall.

Whitefish Bay boys soccer coach Rob Dubinski was named the High School Boys Large School Great Lakes Region coach of the year.

Whitefish Bay won the WIAA Division 2 state title this fall.

The 2017 United Soccer Coaches high school boys national coaches of the year were: Large school -- Jay Anderson, Hellgate High School, Missoula, Montana; Small school – Espen Hosoien, Air Academy High School, Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Private/parochial school – Bill Vieth, Reitz Memorial High School, Evansville, Indiana.

The 2017 United Soccer Coaches high school girls national coaches of the year were: Large school – Howard Putterman, Linganore High School, Frederick, Maryland; Small school – Jason Pendleton, Blue Valley Southwest High School, Overland Park, Kansas; and Private/parochial school – Lee Horton, Charlotte Latin School, Charlotte, North Carolina.

The 2017 United Soccer high school assistant coach of the year was Derek Amano, Layton High School, Layton, Utah.

Regional and national coaches of the year will be recognized at the United Soccer Coaches awards banquet Jan. 19, 2018 in Pennsylvania.
