Monona Grove senior Ben McDade has orally committed to Indiana University for men’s swimming.
McDade has been a standout swimmer during high school, leading Monona Grove to WIAA Division 2 state swimming and diving championships in each of his three seasons so far.
As a freshman, McDade finished first at the WIAA Division 2 state swimming and diving meet for boys in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle and was part of the Silver Eagles’ first-place 400 freestyle relay and fifth-place 200 medley relay.
As a sophomore, McDade was first at state in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. He set a new state record of 4 minutes, 30.12 seconds in winning the 500. He also was part of Monona Grove’s first-place 200 freestyle relay and first-place 400 freestyle relay. The 200 freestyle relay established a state record of 1:25.80.
As a junior, McDade again helped lead Monona Grove to the state title – for the third consecutive season. McDade was first in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. He shattered his own record in the 500 freestyle, setting a new mark of 4:28.83. He was part of the Silver Eagles’ first-place 200 medley relay and first-place freestyle relay.
