Five area divers — three in Division 1 and two in Division 2 — earned berths in next week's WIAA state meet with their performances in sectional competition on Friday.

Verona/Mount Horeb senior Maggie Nunn scored 455.15 points to win the Division 1 Middleton sectional.

Also in Division 1, Madison Memorial senior Natalie Donkle scored 443.75 points to finish second in the six-diver field, and Middleton senior Eleanor Mackey scored 429.65 points for third place.

Donkle and Mackey also earned state berths because their performances ranked among the 18 best Division 1 non-winning point totals among the five state sectionals.

In Division 2, Monona Grove senior Nikki Benedict won the Stoughton sectional title with 445.65 points. Her teammate, freshman Trinity McNall, also qualified for state with a total of 400.01 points that ranked among the top 12 non-winning Division 2 point totals.

The Division 2 state diving competition will begin at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at the University of Wisconsin Natatorium. The Division 1 diving competition is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11.

Area swimmers will compete Saturday in WIAA sectional meets, hoping to earn berths in the state meet (Division 2 at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 10; Division 1 at 3 p.m. Nov. 11).
