The Warriors (44-7) led 13-11 in the final set before the Cardinals rallied. Roepke finished with 13 kills and junior Sarah Malone had 16 digs for Waunakee.

The Cardinals (38-9) were led by senior Claire Chaussee with 19 kills. Senior Sam Krekel produced 21 assists for 11th-ranked Sun Prairie.

Unranked Waunakee will meet Oconomowoc (30-9), the top-ranked team in the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association’s state poll, in a state quarterfinal match at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Resch Center in Ashwaubenon.

Coach Anne Denkert said Waunakee has made seven state trips, but the most recent was in 1993. It was the first time in five sectional finals spanning Denkert’s 17 years as coach that Waunakee advanced.
