Boys cross country photo: Middleton boys take 16th in Nike Cross Nationals

The Middleton boys cross country team finished 16th of 22 teams in Saturday's Nike Cross Nationals, held in Portland, Oregon. 

The Middleton boys cross country team ran to a 16th place finish in the 22-team Nike Cross Nationals on Saturday at Glendoveer Golf Course in Portland, Oregon.

Junior Caleb Easton led the Cardinals, covering the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes, 6.4 seconds to take 65th place overall.

Also for Middleton, senior Sam Jaeger was 97th (16:23.8); sophomore Roman Ystenes was 112th (16:31.5); junior Michael Madoch was 140th (16:48.4); sophomore Braedon Gilles was 183rd (17:21.8) and senior Zachary Leffel was 192nd (17:34.1).

Mequon Homestead senior Drew Bosley finished seventh overall, in 15:24.5.

Boys swimming

Naperville (Ill.) Quad

Despite winning seven of the 11 swimming events, the Madison West boys swimming team came in third in Saturday’s Barrington (Illinois) Quad.

Naperville (Illinois) North won the event with 272 points. West, the only non-Illinois school in the field, scored 251 points, just two behind runner-up Oak Park/River Forest.

West swept all three relay races, with Lain Weaver swimming in the 200 medley relay (1:35.94) and 400 freestyle relay (3:15.05) and adding individual victories in the 50 free (:21.86) and 100 free (:47.64).

Wes Jekel won the 100 backstroke (:51.51) and swam on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relay teams.

West’s Henry Miller won the 100 breaststroke (1:00.55) and swam on the winning 200 free relay (1:31.28) and 400 free relay.

James Hanson scored off an assist from Chad Clark in the first period to help the Vikings (1-2-0) top the visiting Blackhawks (0-3-1).

Nolan Stapelfeldt scored Stoughton’s other goal four minutes into the second period.
