Madison artist Sid Boyum created a poster commemorating the opening day of the fishing season every April from 1963 to 1989 for the Wisconsin State Journal and Capital Times. The newspapers published the pen-and-ink drawings and provided Boyum with a limited number of the posters. the Wisconsin Historical Society described the posters: "Arguably his best and most unique work, these masterful fish tales called out his skill as an artist, his tactical skill and planning, his wild imagination and his famous ability to lie and creatively expand the truth.” The society is collecting the posters, filling in missing years and upgrading those in lesser condition.
