The 2014 Brezeme Syrah made by Eric Texier is available in Madison for around $27. Bob Hemauer describes it as "a gorgeous example of classic, old world syrah."

"The reason I like syrah this time of year is the smoke reminds me of campfires and falling leaves.

"This is syrah season."

This week on the podcast, Cork 'n' Bottle's Bob Hemauer joins host Lindsay Christians to talk about syrah, the deep purple wine with flavors of dark fruit, flowers and smoke. Syrah is particularly affected by cool and warm climates, so syrah (or shiraz) from Australia and hot spots in California may taste entirely different than wine made in parts of France, Washington and the Sonoma Coast.

The wines on this week's podcast (both available in Madison) are:

2014 Eric Texier Côtes du Rhône-Brézème ($26)

2013 Owen Roe Sharecropper's Syrah ($18)
