Public Service Commission chairwoman Ellen Nowak will replace Scott Neitzel as head of the state Department of Administration next month, Gov. Scott Walker announced Thursday.

Nowak was appointed to the PSC in 2011 and has led it since 2015. She previously served as chief of staff to former Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas and as legal counsel and chief of staff to former Assembly Speaker John Gard.

"Serving the public at the PSC has been a tremendous honor, and I thank Governor Walker for placing his trust in me to lead DOA," Nowak said in a statement. "We will continue building upon Governor Walker’s reforms which have made Wisconsin a stronger, more prosperous state for everyone."

Nowak's first day as DOA secretary will be March 5.

"We set out to make our government more efficient, effective, and accountable to the people, and that’s exactly what we’ve done," Neitzel said in a statement.

PSC commissioner Lon Roberts, a former secretary of the state Department of Financial Institutions, will take over as PSC chairman on March 5.
